Webcomic review: Girl Genius Apr. 4th, 2008 @ 04:38 pm
I'd never heard of "steampunk" before, but if Girl Genius is a representation of that then I think I could get into it.

The story follows Agatha Clay as she encounters monsters, machines (called clanks), and crazed scientists (calls Sparks). I don't want to give away too much of the story, because you really should read it. Well, I wouldn't recommend it to little kids since there is blood, mild swearing, and acres of cleavage. Not to mention several deaths, including a few sympathetic characters.

If I were to complain about anything, it'd probably be how every single woman in the comic is built like a Buxom 'This Corset Is Going To Blow' Barmaid. Are there any women in that world who are, oh I don't know, skinny? Fat? (I'm not counting the operatic cameo.) Less physically endowed than Dolly Parton?

Still, the characters are all definitely unique individuals in personality and appearance. That's a good thing.

One thing that makes me curious is the art style. It looks exactly like the art in some old Dragon Magazine comics Dad saved. I'm currently trying to find out if this is an amazing coincidence or if GG is drawn by the same people who did those comics. That would be so cool.

Edit: Just received confirmation that my suspicions were correct.

Phil Foglio, artist of Girl Genius also did the Phil & Dixie comics of Dragon Magazine.

Must tell Dad. Now.

Ha-ha! Aug. 11th, 2007 @ 06:50 pm
A new laptop! And it works!

Well, mostly. There's something odd with the way the CD drive is read or something. Every time I try to open it I get the 'open with' list, as if it were an unknown document. I'll have to ask about that on Monday.

At least the place I got this beauty from does decent work. Another small outfit, but the quality is topnotch. (Might even say beyond topnotch, since the big-name companies are falling so far behind.)

Beyond that, life has been fairly uneventful. I gotta knuckle down and work on Mary Quite Contrary now. I'm so far behind! ToT

SNOW! Dec. 21st, 2006 @ 05:56 pm
It's finally snowing! And it's staying on the ground!

You know, I was just saying this morning to Dad that I wished Denver would give us some of their snow. (And I'm sure they'd be happy to oblige.)

This has been a really wimpy winter in Minnesota. We only had snow one day before this and it melted really fast.

I sure hope this stays longer. Maybe then my allergies will get a break.

Ah! And I have some art!

Arthur's Pendragons

It's the girls from Mary Quite Contrary! I've called the piece Arthur's Pendragons because the Dad's name is Arthur. (It was partially Mom's idea.)

Oh, to anyone who reads the strip, the title page for this chapter will start to make sense sometime next semester. I can't give any exact dates, but the plot is thickening as we speak. So to speak.

It's here! Sep. 2nd, 2006 @ 01:27 pm
Finally! I got the webcomic up and running! The first page is up, most of the links (should) work, and I have a bunch of comics queued up for future updates. Now to sit back and watch the show. (Until I have to upload more comics, that is.)

Well, here's hoping this works out.

Growing up has never been so surreal.
