Is it a full moon? Jul. 19th, 2008 @ 10:45 pm
On taking a look at the news, Dad made the comment, "What? Did someone let all the loonies out today?"

There is some odd stuff in the headlines.

Flight Diverted After Man Strips, Tries to Open Exit Door -- It gets better. He was stopped by a soccer team that just happened to be on the same flight.

Enormous Whale Carcass Falls Off Hawaiian Truck -- This is when Dad made that comment

Pilot Leaves Controls of Plane to Free Parachutist -- Er. Who's flying the plane?

Two in a Million: Twins Born - One Black, One White -- Uh. Whoa.

Katie Holmes Seeks Career Suicide -- ... Who?

Service Monkey Lawsuit -- Say what?

2 Florida Men to Spend a Year Prison for Killing Goose -- And just when you thought animal rights couldn't get any weirder...

Okay, okay. Most of these stories make sense once you start reading them. But still.

And I know these are all from Fox News, the big bad boogy of cable news. They have some neat stuff, what can I say?

I discovered a fun little game. Infinite Ways to Kill a Sledder!

No. Actually, it's called Line Rider. But it sure is fun to see how many ways you can make the guy wipe out in almost certainly fatal ways.

Try putting him into free fall. Fun. hehehehehe

A couple memes Nov. 14th, 2007 @ 05:51 pm
Well, looks like I've been tagged. The idea is that I tag others in return, but I'd rather that anyone who reads this choose whether or not they wish to continue the memes by posting them on their own blogs.

First up is a meme from MikeFrench since he was nice enough to ask me before tagging me. ^_^

About me:

1. How long have you been blogging?
Five or six years, I think.

2. What inspired you to start a blog and who are your mentors?
Inspired? I wouldn't say that, exactly. I'd just noticed such things existed and it seemed cool. I haven't really had any mentors, either. My Dad, maybe, but we've been kinda learning from each other.

3. Are You trying to make money online, or just doing it for fun?
For fun right now, but I'd like to build up a reputation and readership so I can make money from my online activities soon.

4. Tell me 3 things you LOVE about being online.
Access to knowledge from around the world without having to leave home. Some really cool games. Human interaction without having to actually meet anyone! (I'm not exactly the most social person on the face of the earth.)

5. Tell me 3 things you STRUGGLE with on-line.
Telling if I've offended anyone. (Did so-n-so not respond to my post because I offended or has he/she simply not read it yet?) Sifting though all the junk to find information that's actually useful. (What's all that stuff about Sailor Moon doing in my Fruits Basket search?) Telling time. (Whoa! I was playing Runescape for three hours!?)

Now for the second meme, this one from Moonshadow.

"7 things about me that you might not know"

1) I'm 5' 3". Only three inches taller than my Mom. (Yes, my Mom is 5 foot nothing. If she were just a couple inches or so shorter she'd be an official midget.)

2) I have over a dozen cousins. Nearly 20, at last count. And those are just first cousins. ^_^

3) In sixth grade I won a poetry contest. I also happened to be on of only two people in my class who entered. The poem was really kinda lame, but I got in a book, anyway.

4) (This is harder than it looks.) Because of a series of odd dreams, I was convinced I was an alien from another planet during second grade. Actually, I think the dreams were caused by watching too much Superman.

5) As you might have guessed from #4, I really like superheros. My favorite as a kid was Darkwing Duck. I wanted a gas gun just like his. Including the grappler attachment.

6) Watching the original Star Wars trilogy at the same time I was reading The Lord of the Rings trilogy is what got me going on writing an epic. (Which I still haven't finished. I've barely started and I've been working on it for eight years.)

7) I want to run a petting zoo/animal rescue. I want a yard and house full of animals. Including wild animals. Raccoons are so cute!!

Deep (and not so deep) thoughts. Jun. 9th, 2007 @ 07:15 pm
Just some things that have come to mind recently.

People have a need to believe in something greater than themselves. There is no evolutionary prerogative for this. Could it be because there *is* something greater to believe in?

Perhaps even more than 'mama' or 'dada', among the first words a child learns are 'uh-oh' and 'no'.

Why do so many people join a religion without a) first learning exactly what that religion teaches and b) believing everything that religion teaches?

Why to program crashes happen in groups?

Do washers really eat socks?

If the rain forests are really being destroyed at the rate people claim, why do they still show up as huge green blobs on global satellite images?

Wind feels very good on a warm day.

We aren't born with modesty, especially boys.

Medieval thinkers didn't see the Earth as the center of the universe. They saw it as the bottom. The only thing lower than Earth was Hell.

This is incredibly funny. ROFL

I just got a CD Dr. Smiles from DeviantArt put together for me. (For free, out of the goodness of his heart. He's such a nice guy! ^_^ )

Now, imagine the following twisted like a drunken snake all over a CD:

"Holy Crap! This is Dr.Smiles' Amazingly Awesome CD of Diabilically Evil Goodness! This meticulously hand selected array of extraordinary digital media authoring tools and additional intar-web enhansing applications contained right here in this freshly toasted CD-ROM Optical media disc is guaranteed to enable the who possesses it to complete at least the first stage of his/her nefarious scheme for total world domination or NO MONEY BACK! But wait, THAT'S NOT ALL!!! As a special bonus, this shiny mirror-like disc also contains (4) music videos, created in the anime style popular to Otaku (both here in the states and across the great wet expanse of ocean in Japan) which I would describe here in detail but for the fact that I have yet to watch them. Simply insert this media storage device (but don't forget to remove it from it's case first!), shimmery-side down into your PC's CD-ROM drive (YES! That is for CDs, it is NOT a cup holder, while using it to hold a mug of freshly-brewed, delicious coffee might be convenient, it will most likely result in breaking the tray and voiding your PC's warranty, and worst of all spil the precious brown caffinated substance!) for immediate (note, depending on PC's speed, results mught not be immediate) entertainment featuring your favorite musical artists' works put to video with hundreds of drawing of big-eyed chicks and bishies placed in order, switching rapidly from one to the next, using a frame-by-frame, photo-graphic process, creating the illusion of movement. Disclaimer: This CD is not recommended for children under 5, those who are pregnant or may become pregnant, anyone with a history of heart disease. The creator of this CD is not in any way responsible for any personal injury that may result from the use of this product. Do not aim directly at eyes or face."

Did you know that the Bible is the number one best seller in America? But you won't find it on The New York Times' best sellers list. I suppose they could argue that it's because the Bible is *always* the best seller and people will get bored seeing it at the top of the list all the time.

But it does seem interesting.

Anyway, I'm really sick and tired of Quizilla's image hosting for quiz results. I'm constantly getting error messages and when the stupid picture finally *is* loaded it's pretty problematic whether it'll be visible or not. >.< One of the reasons I don't make new quizzes there very often.

I think it's possible to include an image from somewhere other than Quizilla in the results, though. I'll have to try that next time I make a quiz.

Speaking of which:

Bowling for Bishonen

Which is actually Kittenlark's quiz, but she doesn't have an account so I posted it on mine.

Fun, if pointless. Jan. 17th, 2006 @ 09:32 pm
Just so you know, I still have a cold, but I am able to breath a bit easier.

Ripped from [info]toffeejedi:

1. What's on your bedside table?
phone, papers, notebook, random junk

2. What's the geekiest part of your music collection?
Anime music, lots of it. Lots and lots of it.

3. What do you eat when you raid the fridge at night?
carrots, pb&j sandwiches, whatever's there.

4. What is your secret guaranteed weeping film?
Line forms here. (I'm rather emotional.)

5. If you could have plastic surgery, what would you have done?
Ugh.

6. Do you have a completely irrational fear?
You mean besides being completely and totally freaked by hieghts? (Some serious acrophobia going on.)

7. What is the little physical habit that gives away your insecure moments?
I'd say fidgeting, but I do that all the time. Maybe pressing my pointer fingers together.

8. Do you ever have to beg?
Have to... not necessarily. Have I? Uh, yeah. ~.~;

9. Do you have too many love interests?
Do I have any love interests?

10. Do you know anyone famous?
I wish.

11. Describe your bed.
An old, slightly lumpy twin size. With lavender sheets.

12. Spontaneous or plan?
Well, I try to plan, but it never works out so I end up having to wing it.

13. Who should play you in a movie about your life?
No idea. Know any actresses who are a bit short, have bushy eyebrows, and an unruly mop of hair?

14. Do you know how to play poker?
Sorta. Though I always lose. (Thank goodness I only play with my uncles and cousins with pennies.)

15. What do you carry with you at all times?
My keys. I'm never getting locked out again.

16. How do you drive?
I don't.

17. What do you miss most about being little?
No rent, no bills, and being able to get away with acting crazy.

18. Are you happy with your given name?
Yeah, I guess. Though I haven't always.

19. What color is your bedroom?
White. My livingroom, white; my kitchen, white with brown cupboards; my bathroon, white; my hallway, white. I live in an apartment.

20. What was the last song you were listening to?
Do the closing credits of a cartoon count?

21. Have you ever been in a school play?
Several. I was Wendy in Peter Pan once. ^_^

22. Have you ever been in love?
I've had crushes...

23. Do you like yourself and believe in yourself?
Yeah, I like me. I'm just not sure how many other people do...

25. Do you think you're cute?
HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!

26. Do you consider yourself to be a nice person?
Yeah, I try. Though I sometimes come off like the Saint Bernard that sat on his master while said master was having a heartattack.

Happy New Year! Dec. 31st, 2005 @ 07:50 pm
Well, the new year isn't until tomorrow, but I work in the morning. ^_^ Actually, I was supposed to be at work now but things were so slow I was sent home. But not before I got some pie.

One of the best things about working at a resturaunt is getting free food. ^w^ Or at least food at a greatly reduced price. In this case the food was free, though.

And when a mistake is made on an order the back line people can sometimes eat it. (If the mistake still left it edible, anyway.)

Oh, what else... I was hoping to start work on a picture based off my favorite scene from Braum Stoker's Dracula, but I just haven't been able to get up the courage. There are four people to draw all interacting with each other and I don't do well with multiple figure compositions.

I really want this picture to work but I'm not sure I'm good enough.

In fact, considering that I've failed at every attempt to sell me artwork, I'm starting to wonder if I'm good period.

I mean, I must be good since people keep telling me I am... but...

Bother.

brought to you by Quizilla

Really? I'll take your word for it.

My actual name would be written this way in Hiragana , this way in Katakana , and this way in Kanji . The last would be pronounced yukai.

My screen name, Brigid, would be ... mangled. Does Burijitto sound anything like Brigid? Seems that's as close as the Japanese language can get, though.

ARTIST
you have a touch with the internal. most of the
time your physical appearance may lack due to a
more intense focus on the beauty of the world
around you. you may be gifted in that
everything you touch becomes more appealing,
able to draw pictures or coordinate colors, or
you have a way with written words that can move
the coldest heart. you are very aware of your
feelings, which can cause you to lapse into
stages of depression occassionally. you can
also sympathize with other's feelings.

» A need to update.
Kittenlark says she wants me to update more. And what Kittenlark wants Kittenlark has a way of getting. (She's a scary little spagetti girl.)

She also said that she tries all the quizzes I post and is often creeped by how closed her results are to mine.

Or to Dad's. She and he got the same result on that What You See In the Mirror quiz. They both see dragons, apparently.

Cool! ^_^

Anyway, what should I update with? Nothing is really happening here. Nightengale and I saw the latest episode of YuYu Hakusho and it was SO funny! Yusuke's back and just as crazy as before. And Koenma is getting cool, too. I'm not quite as disgusted at the idea floating around the internet that Koenma and Botan should be a couple.

I still don't see it, but I'm not as disgusted. I mean, really, his normal form looks like a toddler. Going out on a date punctuated by changing diapers.

Yes, yes, I know, he is toilet trained. Still.

» Holy Day of Obligation et. al.
Well, yesterday was a Holy Day of Obligation. Very nearly forgot before Nightengale called asking if I wanted to go to the 7pm Mass with her.

^_^U Thank goodness for attentive sisters.

Anyway, Nightengale wanted my help on a problem on the way to Mass. She had an opportunity to get extra credit by sitting for an hour and a half listening to people yell at each other. In otherwords, attend a political debate.

Well, I began pointing out the pros and cons. I had Nightengale stand on the seam between two blocks of pavement. I stood to her left when noting to pros and to the right when noting the cons.

"On the side we have an opportunity to learn about the political process. On this side we have one and a half hours of listening to politicians trying to out shout each other. On this side..." This continued for a while until I started running out of pros. Then I said, "On this side we have----grass."

Nightengale thought that was hilarious.

The thing is, what I really want to talk about I can't. It's really neat, but if I said anything then... gaack! No! Wait! Aaaaaaa! I wasn't going to say! Help! Help!
...

» Random angst
What to update with...

The weather is unseasonably beautiful (if you've ever been in Minnesota during late fall you know what I mean) and I'm doubled over in pain.

Eve had to have commited the greater sin. There's no other explanation.

Besides that, there are two appartments that will have new tenants within a month or two.

That also means I'm going to have to clean those appartments. >.<

Thankfully, I won't be mowing (correction, asking Nightengale to mow) for a while because the cold has been inhibiting the growth of the grass.

But it's still green. It's almost Halloween and there hasn't been enough snow to even dust the sidewalk!

At least I'm nearly finished with my costume. I've been working on a Botan costume for over a year, and I think it's almost ready. Why has it been taking so long? Because I'm making the wig by hand. Out of cloth mess and blue yarn.

This had better work.

And I still don't have a paying job. There is **nothing** here.

Over saturation, my unwillingness to walk around town at night, and my lack of experience have been, I think, the major factors. I've gone over my tactics several times and I haven't been able to see anything wrong.

Neither has the councilor I've been seeing for the past month, but she's still convinced I'm doing something to sabatoge my efforts.

9_9 I'm going to this woman why? Well, I have been dealing with some depression, but this really isn't doing much good.

I'm better off solving my own problems. I'm too different from normal people for a councilor to do any good.

At least I have Mythbusters tonight to look forward to.

Urban myths getting busted, and blown up, and smashed, and otherwise mangled. Fun gallor.

Have to wait till Saturday for next YuYu Hakusho episode. That last cliffhanger was murder! Literally! AAAAAAAAA!

2. I'll tell you what song/movie reminds me of you.
- 'Karma Slave' by no idea who... movie? Hmmm..... possibly... 'Hope Floats'

3. I'll say something that only makes sense to you and me.
- Heh, it shall be fun to see everyones reactions to what they find back at the house..

4. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you.
- When we started playing in VC. XD

5. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of.
- A deer.. but not as food. Just the nice person...

6. I'll ask you something that I've always wondered about you.
- ........I actually haven't got something for this..

7. If I do this for you, you must post this on your journal. You MUST. It is written

So I've posted it, and it really was neat. (Wonder what 'Karma Slave' is, other than a song, of course.)

I'm a deer? How sweet! ^-^
